This high concentration of medical presence is reflected in the city's life: D.C. is consistently ranked among the healthiest cities in the nation, and its residents have been named the nations fittest according to US News and Today.

But the city's residents don't only have access to some of the best medical centers in the world: the city is also home to some of the finest medical research institutions in the nation.

If you are a D.C. resident or live in the region and wish to study at a prestigious D.C. university, there are a number of options for you to pursue a Master's in Health Administration.

Healthcare Administration Programs Available in D.C.

George Washington University

GWU is one of the oldest universities in the nation's history, and one of it's most prestigious. The university's Milken Institute School of Public Health offers an MHA program meant to prepare students for leadership roles in healthcare organizations at a regional, national, and global scale.

In addition to management and finance classes, the degree plan places a heavy focus on the workings and consequences of health policy: being located in the policy epicenter of the nation, students are able to train with and learn from real policymakers at the nation's capitol.

The program costs $1,710 per credit hour in tuition, though it is important to know that other university and student association fees apply.

Students are highly encouraged to contact the school's financial aid offices in order to see what aid they might qualify for.

The program is offered in both an on-campus and online format. The on-campus format comprises 50 total credit hours, 6 of which must be gained through field experience, such as through an internship with a local organization. Most students complete the track in two years, and the degree must be completed within five years.

The online option is meant for students with several years of professional experience. It also comprises 50 credit hours, and can be completed in a series of eight online modules and four on-campus sessions. Students are also required to present a research project and a leadership portfolio from their experience in the industry.

This program is CAHME-accredited, and has been ranked the sixteenth best MHA program in the entire country. Graduate job placement rates fluctuate around 96 percent (source). For admission, the school only requires that students have obtained a B or higher in undergraduate statistics and undergraduate accounting courses.

The Catholic University of America

Whether or not you identify with the Catholic faith, you may find the educational offer at the university to be worthwhile.

The CUA is one of the most well-funded universities in the region, with seven different libraries, a multitude of laboratories, and 22 research centers available for its students use. The university also is a network of scholars and offers students an abundance of assistantships, research opportunities, and industry connections.

The school's MHA program is a 40-credit hour program which is generally completed in two years by full-time students and in seven semesters by part-time students.

The college estimates that graduate students will pay approximately $67,000 for their entire degree.

Which includes fees separate from the tuition such as room and board, which may vary from student to student. It is worth noting that the school boasts 97 percent of its first-year students receive some sort of financial aid package (source).

In addition to the health and management coursework and the final semester capstone research project, all students are required to take a Catholic Servant Leadership Course and a Principles of Ethical Leadership Course.

The schedule offered is designed to be flexible for students who are working professionals, and many of the courses are available online.
