Indiana claims four of the twenty-five most affordable cities to live in the nation, including the number one (Fort Wayne) and two (Evansville) spots (source). But in terms of healthcare, Indiana spends roughly $250 more per person on healthcare than the national average.
Indiana is one of the states which chose to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and coverage for Indiana residents has consistently increased over the years (source). All this means that, on average, Indianans are generally more insured than other Americans, and more money goes into their healthcare.
This information, in conjunction with its low cost of living and many quality universities, might make Indiana an ideal choice for any professional choosing to advance their career with a Master's in Health Administration.
Health Administration in Indiana
As we mentioned above, Indiana is one of the states which spends the highest amount per citizen on healthcare. With a ten percent growth rate expected over the next twelve years, and an increasingly aging population, the future of healthcare in Indiana must have well-trained, experienced health managers at the helms of its organizations.
Professionals in this workforce can expect an average annual salary of approximately $98,940, though this number is likely to rise over the next few years as the field becomes more specialized (source).
Indiana health managers may find work in private clinics, physician offices, or any of the more than 160 hospitals in the state, in administrative roles.
Common Master's in Health Care Administration Degree Concepts
MHA students can expect to see a wide range of topics in an accredited degree plan, no matter where they study. Below, we have listed some typical coursework, to give you an idea of what you are likely to encounter.
Community Health Assesment
As health administrators, you will be responsible for ensuring quality care for entire communities at a time. This and other similar courses are meant to introduce students to the concepts associated with community health, and the tools used in the profession for assessing these systems, identifying areas for improvement, and enacting effective changes.
Healthcare Marketing
Leaders within the healthcare system must understand the marketing challenges associated with health services. Students are taught the fundamentals of marketing, and investigate the role of marketing within the management of healthcare organizations. Ideally, students of this course obtain a strong foundation of tools and techniques in order to understand and develop marketing plans.
Medical Ethics
Ethics is an incredibly important part of any healthcare organization: understanding the complicated issues which patients, doctors, and other staff face on a daily basis is essential to organizing systems in ways that ensure ethical care. Students of this and similar courses will learn the theory and precedent regarding ethics in the health industry.

University of Southern Indiana
USI is a public university located outside Evansville, and one of the largest in the state. Students must have completed their GRE, and have maintained a GPA of 3.0: ideal students will also have at least two years of work experience in the healthcare industry.
With a strong emphasis on the development of critical thinking and leadership skills, this program utilizes a cohort system which pairs students in small groups with whom they will complete a majority of the degree.
The majority of the coursework is completed online, with the exception of three intensive meetings which are
similar to conferences in format and scope. These two-day sessions generally occur in January, May, and August.
The Base Tuition For Indiana Resident Graduate Students is $385 Per Credit Hour
Out-of-state students are charged a higher fee of $754 per hour. Additional fees for the College of Nursing and online coursework apply.
Students are encouraged to inquire for potential financial aid packages, and students who live on or near the campus can apply for graduate assistants in order to offset the cost of their education.
Purdue
Consistently ranked within the top one hundred universities in the world, Purdue is a public system with nearly 150 years of history over multiple campuses, with the main campus located in West Lafayette.
Purdue Global is the university's accredited online campus, which prides itself in offering the same access to award-winning faculty and high-quality education, while allowing students from all over the state, nation, and globe to study when and where they need.

A high focus is placed on helping students to solidify their understanding of the ethical, administrative, and professional skills necessary for success in the health industry. Online students can expect a base tuition of $485 per credit hour. This does not include other university and program fees.
