At the end of 2015, Mississippi was one of the ten states whose uninsured population has dropped the most since the passing of the Affordable Care Act.
But now, with legislation targeting key parts of the Act, 229,000 Mississippians are in risk of losing their coverage, and, unless there are changes in the system, it is likely the uninsured rates in Mississippi will spike again in 2019 (source).
Approximately 23 percent of the state's residents rely on Medicaid for their insurance, and over 1.3 million (nearly half the population) suffer from some sort of chronic pre-existing condition.
For these and other Mississippians who suffer health-related issues, now is a critical time. Qualified
doctors and administrators are needed in the state's hospitals, clinics, and outpatient centers. If you live
in Mississippi and are passionate about community health, pursuing your Master's in Health Administration
might be a good choice.
